About
Born and raised in Rome, I moved to New York City in the mid-2000s for its opportunities and diversity. I hold a degree in Literature & History of Performing Arts from La Sapienza Università di Roma and a Certificate in HR from Cornell. In the mid-1990s I worked at Agenzia Danesi-Tolnay, a theatrical agency in Rome that represents some of the most influential American playwrights for the Italian market. Part of my work was translating American plays into Italian for productions. During these years translating became a passion. My translations have been produced throughout Italy and been published by Einaudi in Turin and Broadway Play Publishing in New York City. Throughout the years my translations have also included administrative, legal, and financial documents. My bilingual skills proved invaluable during my many years working in classical music and opera, including assisting American singers with Italian diction. In my leisure time, I enjoy gardening, aperitivo, and exploring New York City’s neighborhoods.
Conversation
Are you planning a trip to Italy? Would you like to improve your conversation skills? I’m here to help. We can follow my lesson plans or if you prefer, we can be spontaneous and talk about whatever happens to interest you at the moment. All the while I will work with you on word choice, idioms, quirks of the language, and pronunciations.
Diction
My many years at opera agencies have given me a wealth of experience working with opera singers at all stages of their careers. Whether you’re a professional, nonprofessional, or student opera singer who wants to improve the way you enunciate Italian words and phrases, I will work with you to achieve your goals.
Translation
With over 25 years of experience translating, I provide a broad variety of translation services to and from Italian. In the case of literary works, the objective is to render translations that read naturally, as if originally written in the translated language, with fidelity to author intent and tone. In the case of essays, articles, social media posts, and business documents, the emphasis is to render as literal a translation as the languages will allow without sounding stiff or unclear.
